Academics

Lower School

Igniting Curiosity. Inspiring Achievement.

For many parents like you, the search for the right private elementary school is a journey woven with hopes, dreams, and quiet concerns about what lies ahead. Will my child feel safe? Will they be encouraged to take risks without fear of failure? What happens when they face challenges — academic or emotional?

As a private Catholic school in Buffalo’s Elmwood Village, Nardin Academy understands these questions don’t just guide your decisions. They help build the future your child deserves. In our Lower School for students Kindergarten-Grade 4, your child will step into an environment that nurtures their mind, heart, and spirit. Here, they’ll discover that learning is a continuous journey — one where curiosity opens doors to knowledge, and challenges become opportunities for growth.

Learning Environment

Every child is known here.

The Power of the Responsive Classroom

At the center of our teaching is the Responsive Classroom approach, an evidence-based model that supports both academic and social-emotional development. Teachers warmly refer to students as “friends,” creating an environment where every child feels seen and valued. Morning meetings help students feel connected and give them a chance to practice empathy toward others. These daily routines build the social skills and emotional awareness that support their growth both in the classroom and beyond.

Personalized Learning through Deep Connections

With small class sizes, teachers have the time and freedom to understand each child’s strengths and challenges. Lessons are not one-size-fits-all. Instead, they are adapted to meet individual needs. Teachers and students build trust, creating an atmosphere where children feel safe to ask questions, share ideas, and even make mistakes — because mistakes are part of growth.

Academic Program

Foundations built on exploration.

At Nardin Academy, each lesson invites students to explore the world in new ways. Our classrooms hum with activity. Students build longhouses while uncovering the lives of early settlers, and art projects emerge from the pages of the stories they read. Through hands-on projects and meaningful collaboration, knowledge is no longer abstract — it becomes something that your child can experience, create, and carry for life.

Where Learning Meets Movement

At Nardin, movement is part of the rhythm that keeps students engaged. It’s the laughter of a game at recess, the burst of energy during a movement break, or the active stations that get them thinking on their feet. Movement isn’t a pause from learning — it’s another way they process, reflect, and recharge, making every step a part of their growth.

Meet a Teacher

Name: Erin Egnatchik
Education: Masters in Childhood Education, Grades 1-6
Teaching Experience: 4th year at Nardin Academy

“Fourth grade is a year of incredible growth, and I feel privileged to be part of that journey. When my students walk into my classroom in September, they’re still discovering who they are. My goal is to help them build confidence, think more deeply, and navigate both academic challenges and social-emotional growth. I create a supportive space where they can take risks, ask big questions, and expand their skills. By the time we celebrate Moving Up Day, I love seeing how much they’ve grown — ready to take on middle school with excitement and confidence!”
